From the Ashes is an art exhibit at Texas A&M University, showcasing works from the Ars Aevi Museum of Contemporary Art in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, to highlight the atrocities of the Bosnian War (1992-1995) and the subsequent peace building efforts. The war, marked by ethnic violence and destruction, deeply impacted Bosnia’s cultural heritage, with Sarajevo’s historic landmarks, including the Vijećnica (city hall), suffering significant damage. Now rebuilt, Vijećnica houses the Ars Aevi Museum, a symbol of resilience, from which the featured artworks originate, emphasizing the role of art in healing and advocacy. Curated by students in collaboration with international experts and supported partially by NATO, the exhibit includes prints, mixed media, and film installations, running at the James R. Reynolds Gallery until March 1, 2025.
